While I was wrapping the bears I was wondering why Teddy Bears are so comforting. After all, they are really just fabric sewn together and stuffed. The right types of bears are so lovely to hold though. I get my daughters bears every now and then. This Christmas is one of the “now” times. I don’t really like the bears from toy shops, but rather prefer getting proper bears from Teddy Bear shops. I prefer those that are more authentic looking, or rather vintage looking bears.
I gave each daughter’s bear a hug before I wrapped them, just for the sake of it. I was thinking that perhaps the comforting part about the bear is that the expression is a bit like the Mona Lisa, they can be happy or sad, depending on how you look at them, and also, they absorb tears. You could tell them anything and they will just keep that half love expression.
I have only one bear, as seen in the picture above, given to me by my daughter a few years ago. This bear has heard a lot of soul baring from me. Maybe they should be rather be called “Teddy Bares.” Just a silly thought. I treasure this bear though, not really a cuddling bear, but nice to look at.
For me teddy bears have a heart and they understand me. That is why cuddling one is so comforting! I do have various and I love them all!
Wishing you a good Christmas Michelle! ♥
Teddy Bears. What a silly idea. How can grow men and women still be attached to a teddy bear? Oh well, to each his own…..got to go now….time for my bath….now where did I put my rubber ducky?….
It’s so true about the teddy bears, isn’t it? I still miss my teddy bear from when I was a toddler (and I’m 64)! Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas!
I have always loved teddy bears! My sister in law actually became a professional bear maker and designer…
But the best story of Teddy Bears was when I was helping the Red Cross post disaster – there had been a terrible flooding and people were digging out their homes… my job – yes, the very best of jobs! ~ was walking from home to home, stopping to talk to people and see how they were doing. I was to offer the bears to kids, but, in truth, it was the adults who needed the bears.
A mother and daughter were each being very brave for one another and yet they were being crushed by emotion…. I was speaking with one, keeping the corner of my eye on the other, who was blinking back tears and a lip would quiver before being sternly gripped by her teeth. Keeping my eye on one, I “absent-mindedly” passed a bear to the other, asking, “Would you hold this for me, please? My arms are a little full.” The older mother took it as only mothers do and gradually her hands carried that bear to her shoulder and neck, and she buried her face into the bear’s fur and wept. The daughter was caught off guard and tears sprang to her eyes – well, clearly, another bear! They kept them and I have never been so thanked in all my life….
Well, right after, I thought, huh – that might make a good post… Grin. Thank you for helping me get there by your lovely one. Hope the girls enjoyed their Bears!
It did make a great post 🙂
The girls loved their bears 🙂
Aw, I love that idea! Stuffed animals have always brought me much over the years. My mom used to have a dog that she cried into whenever she was sad. Now I have one like it.
What a gorgeous little bear Michelle and such a great shot and yes, Teddy Bears do give a lot of comfort. I have one myself that’s my favourite and a few others. Your daughters are blessed to have such a beautiful and caring mother like you. Have a lovely time with them hon. 😀 *big hugs*
What a cutie that teddy bear your daughter gave you, Michelle. Since you’re talking about teddy bears, thought you might enjoy this video clip on the Teddy Bears Picnic.

I can’t sleep and I stumbled upon this post… You are right, I have one huge Teddy Bear and when I’m not feeling well he goes under my pillow so I can see his smiley face when I turn around or hold his soft leg to feel comfort. I am 25 by the way. 🙂
Merry Christmas!
That is a beautiful bear. My mother loves bears and I have one wrapped and ready to give to her. This one is the same colour as the one in your picture with little rosebuds sewn in the shape of her heart on the belly. 🙂
I too love the ‘authentic’ bears.

I love this post! “…they absorb tears” I’ve not heard or thought of that before, but I’ll bet that is indeed part of their magic, Michelle.
