Things said

Flowers1It is quite mind boggling when someone says something that hits home and it flicks a light on in your head.  Usually these words of wisdom come directly out of the mouths of babes.
The other day I went to the dentist who put some really awful tasting stuff in my mouth, so everytime I clenched my jaws (which I seem to do often without realising it) the horrible taste would fill my mouth.  Anyway, my little seven year old daughter was telling me something that had happened, and at that moment I must have clenched my jaw, because that awful taste just spread all over my mouth again, and I pulled a bit a face, more a grimace at the taste.
I only realised that I had done that when my little daughters chattering stopped and she stared at me with huge eyes.  So I apologised, telling her that it wasn’t because of her that I pulled a face, but because of the awful dentists medicine.
“That’s ok mom, I know you’re a very kind person even though you can be quite rude sometimes” she replied.
That little sentence has been buzzing around in my head for a few days now.  I never realised that I actually am seen as a little rude at times.  Sometimes it helps to get a glimpse of oneself through anothers eyes I think.

  1. ouch – my children have said things like this before – it does stop you in your tracks, though. but i agree – getting a glimpse of oneself through another’s eyes – in particular the eyes of one’s child, can be humbling. 🙂

  2. The definition of “rude”would seem to be an obscure concept to a 7 year old. I sincerely doubt you are a rude individual ! The taste you are having should be from a temporary filling is this correct?

  3. LOL! Said with so much innocence and in such a way that you have to smile. We are all like that Michelle. Kind but rude some times. Just being human. Great post and love the flowers hon. Beautiful shot! 😀 *big hugs*

  4. too funny huggybear, but I’ve never once seen you write anything rude, so I tend to think she was just shocked that you would make a face while she was talking… 🙂

  5. Children say the funniest of things don’t they
Michelle? 🙂 The innocence of youth is refreshing
