  1. My heart goes out to you for your loss. It is as if you have lost a family member who was very loyal and loving. It has been a year since we lost Nelly and Sassy and we still fell the loss of both. Our prayers are with you.

  2. I am so, so sorry to hear this. I understand just how difficult it is. May God give you strength during this incredibly hard time. I know there is precious little that I can say at this point to help but please know that I am here and thinking of you. My heart breaks for you.

  3. I am very sorry. I lost my dog last year and they really are dear companions. I hope that the memories you have get you through this sad time.

  4. Hugs, I am so sad and sorry for you. I am looking at my dog’s old collar in front of me. I have never gotten over losing him in 1999. At that time my best friend sent me this poem. I loved it. It helped sooth my emotional wound. I hope, with a hug, that it does so for you.

    The Power of the Dog

There is sorrow enough in the natural way
    From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and Sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.

Buy a pup and your money will buy
    Love unflinching that cannot lie–
    Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
    Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.

When the fourteen years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,
And the vet’s unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find–it’s your own affair–
But…you’ve given your heart for a dog to tear.

When the body that lived at your single will,
    With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!);
When the spirit that answered your every mood
    Is gone–wherever it goes–for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart for the dog to tear.

We’ve sorrow enough in the natural way,
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent.
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we’ve kept ’em, the more do we grieve:
For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short-time loan is as bad as a long–
So why in Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?

    Rudyard Kipling

  5. I am literally crying with you. They are “family” and they are our dearest friends and losing them is huge. I know because we had two Goldens who grew old and we lost them, one after the other. I am so very very sorry for your loss.

  6. Sorry that his time had come – not for him, but for you.

We all know, though, that in the normal course of things many animal friends will be sent to share a part of our journey, but that they will not complete the trip with us. Therefore we need to treasure, in memory, the part of the journey they were part of – and feel no disloyalty to them in seeking the companion booked for the next stage. All of them will, actually, be part of us and I think we will rejoin them at some stage.

  7. so very, very sorry to hear about your dear doggie/friend. My little doggie is living on borrowed time right now – been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and serious heart problem. Every time I think of him not being around I choke up like crazy. Will be thinking of you, Hope x

  8. Very sorry to read about your loss–he is a beautiful dog! I lost a dear canine friend several years ago, and I still miss him. Although some people will never understand this, dogs can indeed be our friends in the truest sense of the word.

You have some really outstanding pictures here!

  9. My condolences on your loss Michelle, Dogs always want to be where the action and where their pack (people) are. To that end they become inter-twined in our daily lives and in some ways an extension of ourselves and our family units. I know the pain of losing a dog over the years I’ve lost a few, I remember them all, think about them often, they were all treasured friends.

  10. Nooooo!! I feel so so sad for you, dear Hopestar. How you will miss that darling face, and the unwavering love of your faithful friend. I love Harold’s poem, and Col’s comment. Special hugs and lots of love to you.

  11. I’m so very sorry. It’s terrible having to say goodbye to a member of the family. I hope that all your beautiful memories (and a lot of hugs) will help during this difficult time. Here’s one more virtual hug… I’m sure you were *both* lucky to have one another in your life.

  12. People who don’t like animals completely underestimate the joy that our furry family adds to our lives and our sadness when they depart. Your Whisperer was a wonderful friend to you and your family and I am so sorry for your loss. Give yourself time to mourn and heal. The pain will ease and in time hopefully you will be ready to open your heart to another furry family member, perhaps one who desperately needs a loving home.

  13. oh my beautiful michelle , I did not know till you just wrote on my blog…i have been so wrapped up in Alfie passing I have not paid enough attention to the posts.please forgive me. my darling friend I am so so sorry..2 weeks apart your baby and my Alfie. biggest hugs and kisses to you, xxxxxxxxxxx

  14. This is so terribly sad ..I’m very sorry to learn about your loss and I feel with you ..I know what this means for you.

I’m sorry that I have missed your post here ..it’s because I had very little time for the internet recently.

Our dog is over eleven years already and we have to see the vet with her quite often, so the thought of having to let her go some time is present in me as well..

I wish you strength to cope with this loss..my thoughts are with you. Hugs for you!

  15. So sorry to hear!!! Just know you have a loved one working on the other side on your behalf. Hope you find some peace/healing as soon as possible. Wishing you all the best…

  18. I just came across this post. I am so sorry for the loss of your dear friend. The pain of the loss is hard for some to imagine. Our fur children are as much a part of us as humans. I lost my beloved Marshemllow just a short few weeks and can empathize with you so very much. I wrote a small eulogy to him and his difficult beginings. He was very special ….
    Viruals hugs to you,

Namaste. My soul honors your soul. I honor the place in you where the entire universe resides. I honor the light, love, truth, beauty & peace within you, because it is also within me. In sharing these things we are united, we are the same, we are one.
