I have mentioned the Koi pond I have right outside my office before. Well, today when I got back I did what I always do, and that is to go and watch the fish for a few minutes. To my shock and horror this morning the fish were all on the top of the water gasping. It turns out that somehow the pumps went off in the middle of the night, and the water was not oxygenated enough. Anyway, the pumps were put back on, and the fish all seemed fine except for the biggest and oldest of the fish.
The boss was helping, and he said he doesn’t see much hope for the big Koi, but we managed to get it into the bath and tried to get it to get back to normal, but the fish kept turning over as fish do when they’re about to die. The boss left, and I kept looking at this fish feeling that he is still ok but that he needs help. So I fetched a huge jug and kept pouring water around his head and mouth area, whether this is wrong or right I don’t know but I though that that way I was possibly oxygenating the water. All the time I was cursing myself for not having those oxygenating tablets. I kept this up for about a half an hour and kept pushing the fish back into his normal position..then suddenly he whacked his tail and tried swimming in the bath which is obviously too small for hm,. The fish was then put back in t he pond, and I’ve checked on him a few times, and he seems to be ok… I’m glad we saved him today, really glad…
I have to admit – I don’t think I’ll be pouring water around a fish for 30 minutes.
Yes, I’m a bad person, forgive me!!!
Good for you Esperanza – you saved a life today!
No ghiatjie, you are NOT a bad person. You are a very good person…my opinion.
*hugs*
What a wonderful thing to do! The gift of life no less! Good on you.
Thanks, but I think I had unseen help
*hugs*
Incredible and thank you for going to the trouble to save the fish.
no need to thank me…

You never do give up hope do you? I think that’s one of my favorite of your admirable and lovely traits! Congrats to you ~ you saved yet another life! xo
Thanks Presents, I tried
*hugs*
Aw, what a lovely story, and educational too, as I’ve never had fish before, but if I see a poorly fish now, I’ll know what to do
Well, I don’t know if it was the correct way of going about saving a fish but I did what I thought I should do
*hugs*
Great, Hopey! I had to smile at this, because I would have also tried my best to save him. We have Dikkoppe who is breeding between our garden and the neighbour’s. A couple of weeks ago one of the babies fell into the storm water hole. I spend more than two hours to rescue the little bird and was so proud of myself. A couple of days later, one of them (there was 2 babies) disappeared again without a trace and I ma now trying not to get involved with them because it upsets me tremendously!e
Good on you for rescuing the bird Zirkie, sorry one of them disappeared again…
*hugs*
