The Daily Prompt is asking us the following today: Reincarnation: do you believe in it? They have also headed the post as “Karma Chameleon.”
“The only real failure in life is not to be true to the best one knows.” Buddha quote
My understanding of karma is that we are living in a state of existence and have previously lived in states of exsitence. That the things happening to us in our present existence is due to our behaviour in our previous existence. Having been taught Christianity growing up I realise that I have certain ideas that have stuck, but in my quest for the understanding of our existence I generally try to have an open mind to most beliefs and religions until such time, if ever, I have reached some sort of conclusion or understanding within myself about life, only then would I be able to state what I believe.
Until then though, I will choose to live remembering the present karma, in the sense that in any given circumstance I will choose to choose good over bad…and in that way create good karma to the best of my ability.
“There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy”
That about sums it up for me.
Though I’m with you – from a practical point of view, all I can do is the best I can in any given situation.
Totally agree, El.
*hugs*
Your attitude about doing good and needing to know for yourself, reminds me of what the Buddha said:
“Find out for yourself what is truth, what is real. Discover that there are virtuous things and there are non-virtuous things. Once you have discovered for yourself give up the bad and embrace the good.”
Thank you Kieth, the quote explains exactly where I am and how I feel at the moment.
*hugs*
good post!
Thnaks terry.

you are welcome!!
Makes perfect sense… and we can only hope that more and more people will choose the good over the bad in the situations they encounter in life. Sometimes it certainly seems the other way around…
Oh that is dj, just listenening to the news over here makes one wonder how people can do the things they do.
*hugs*
We have to just keep on keeping on, and be the positive examples for others to follow.
A perfect way of looking at it. How could us imperfect human beings ever truly know?
Quite so, Gunta.
*hugs to you*
An open mind and doing more good than bad is all that a person needs on this earth
I quite agree TA.
*hugs*
The very satisfying act of doing something Good…rather than something Bad ..can be felt in our hearts..and enjoyed in this life…and we should all do it more often…just incase there is no further rewards to be had when we are no longer here on earth.
I do find it satisfying to choose good, Jo. Thanks for the comment here my friend.
*hugs*
It makes perfect sense! And pretty much similar to what I believe in about reincarnation.
Glad it makes sense and what we believe is similar, muZer.

You shouldn’t trust the sun or the moon … But .. It will be easier to follow the true feelings of your heart … which is an indicator of love … Only your heart will let you know how much someone loves you … Thank for this posting …
Thank you for your comment and I agree, trusting my heart is top of my list.
*hugs*
Makes sense to me… to be what one can be.. and to help where one can, must stand you in good stead for whatever is ahead…
Glad it makes sense, bulldog.
*hugs*
Love the quote. *Hugs* D 34
Thanks D

Very wise philosophy. Doing the best we can and keeping an open mind helps us to live more peacefully with ourselves and others.
Absolutely, lena.
*hugs*
Can we ever know what we can truly believe in? The very aspect of our intention to know colours our search with baggage from our past and selfish expectations of the future. What could we do to overcome these aspects?
Shakti
You’re quite right in my opinion Shakti.

I think it is a little misguided and childish not to imagine a life both before this and after.

Each one has their right to believe what they will and have their reasons behind that belief
*hugs*
Agreed.
lol – that was not supposed to sound harsh and critical.
I didn’t see it as harsh or critical – hope my reply didnt look as though I thought that
I just read and thought; often that thinking is just me see other sides to things.
yes, I understand.

I believe that if people only do good acts to “insure” good Karma later are missing the point. Do good. It’s just that simple. The rest takes care of itself…
Yes I totally agree Lorna. The good choices that are made should come from the heart not from calculated thinking.
*hugs*
Only thing we can do really – be the cause of more good than bad…
Absolutely ghiatjie.

I think our souls are around forever. Ever meet a small child that seems to have old eyes and about 80 years of wisdom? xoxo
Oh yes I have
*hugs*
Yes, it makes a great deal of sense. Hope you’re well.
Thank you Ian I am well
Hope you are too.
