Todays Daily Prompt:Describe your relationship with your phone. Is it your lifeline, a buzzing nuisance, or something in between?
This might surprise you, but I’m not much of a talker and am rather a quiet person. I would understand if you wouldn’t think that because of all the jabbering I do here on the blog. I find that conversations are very seldom a give an take event, they are usually really one-sided. I prefer my own thoughts. Too much talking can bring out the worst in me I afraid.
Anyway, back to the love hate relationship with my phone. The love part of my cell phone is that I can get on the internet when I want to from anywhere. The dislike part; I don’t like talking on it. When the kids are out I leave it on loud so that they can contact me if they have to, but on normal time, after hours that is, it is either left on vibrate or silent. If I see it vibrating I will check the caller ID and often just do not answer, depending on who it is…yes I know, but what can I say?
I like the fact that my phone has become a mobile assistant. So much cheaper than the real thing and less mouthy too.
That is an excellent point!
*hugs*
I hate a phone… it is necessary for business (in my case) and so I have to keep it on most of the night… however, if I don’t know the number.. you get my machine and chose yourself to leave a message or not… I hate these calls of those trying to sell somethings and I think they realise I hate talking on a phone… my message is short and sweet, and that I will leave to your imagination…
I changed my messgae recently too bulldog, its not so friendly either
*hugs*
I hate phones and mobiles – sela.
I concur…
*hugs*
Most days, I don’t answer my phone either.
I totally get that
*hugs*
I think Calling is the least used feature of smart phones.
That is so true El.

Phones , old and new, are harbingers…
Can’t live with them, can’t live without them…
Have a nice day Jay.
*hugs*
I dislike talking on the phone…I am ok with texting and Internet. I like in-person talks if they are planned out (if they are over 5-10 min).
I agree with you,
Scott
Glad to see I’m not the only one who feels this way
Thanks Scott.
*hugs*
I also don’t like talking on the phone. No eye contact with the person you’re chatting to, can lead to misunderstandings. I love my iPhone for the inernet contact and also for taking photos. Hugs.
Thank you my Dear for a very nice blog I am really enlyo it to read all the time
Thank you

I hardly ever speak on the phone as such, but it is always with me. Because I’m always reading
Mine is also always with me

I do not like talking on the phone and in fact don’t ever like to hear the thing ring.
It’s just seems like rarely is good news ever delivered via a phone call. No one calls to tell me I have won a new Cadillac. They do call to tell me someone I know is sick or has died.
True that Phil, I know what you mean.
*hugs*
Mainly a hate relationship, with me. I will only answer one if there is simply nobody else able to do so at the time.
That I understand fully
*hugs*
…and yet another thing we have in common It’s exactly the same with me, and I’ve even used the same words as you without knowing
I use my smartphone for everything ..except talking on the phone ..
Warm regards to you ..
Birds of a feather then, Ocean
*hugs to you*
I love that my cell phone is handy when I’m away from home, but I don’t love that there is this nano-second delay when talking on it–so either there is this awkward silence ot I end up talking at the same time as the other person. That never used to happen with the old style phones… I’m so old school…
Or also sometimes that echo, when you can hear what you’re saying to the other person and of course that nano second you mention.
Thanks Lorna
*hugs*
Love the picture of the “old” dial up phones. Memories……….I feel the same about my phone, I do not like to talk on my cell phone at all. I do like to check email, Facebook and even read on it. Thanks for such a unique response.
I also like the pic of those old phones…thank for reading Jonathan
*hugs*
I also don’t like speaking on the phone. I’d much rather use it for entertainment purposes

Same here TA

This is going to sound bad – but I pretty much only use my phone to talk to people, and I pretty much only do that while I’m commuting home from work. Hey, I use a hands free device, so it’s not all bad. But that’s about it. Once I’m home I’ll usually ignore it if someone is calling (other than my wife), and I’ll just call the person back the following day, while I’m in the truck, driving home from work.
I understand about the ignoring and calling back later, dj – I do the same
*hugs*
I answer my office line during office hours, my home line if convenient, but if OH is around I leave it to him. I often don’t answer my mobile. Just because people can contact you anywhere at any time does not mean you have to be available. Like you I check the caller ID first. If it says private no. I don’t answer at all unless I am waiting for a call back from a company. I have a smart phone but like other commenters it is used more for internet, messaging, whats app, gps, calculater, torch, camera!
We all seem to do pretty much the same with our smart phones then, Optie. You’re also right, we dont have to be availbale 24/7 on the phone.
*hugs*
I answer my cell, never the land line, that is what answering machines are for. I love the other things I can do on my new cell, not so much talking. Not into chit chat. Life is short.
You’re right! I am really surprised that you don’t like to talk on your cell because you are so active on your blog but then again…I have stepped away from the phone too so I understand. http://yourfriendmel.wordpress.com/2013/02/05/daily-prompt-call-me-maybe/
Glad you undertsand

Indeed I do!
It feels great not to have a cell attached at the hip.
